How it works

Read-only. Steno can’t send messages.

Read-only access

Steno can read your chats and nothing else. The code has no way to send a message, mark one as read, or change your profile.

We don’t see your messages

Everything stays in one folder on your own machine. Nothing is sent to us. Delete the folder and it’s gone.

Designed to work with any agent

Claude, ChatGPT, or anything else that speaks MCP can list, search and read your chats.

Quick start

Three steps, a couple of minutes. All you need is Docker.

  1. Run Steno. In a terminal: 
    git clone https://github.com/0xmythril/steno-personal.git
cd steno-personal
docker compose up
  2. Connect WhatsApp or Telegram. Open localhost:3000 and scan the QR code with your phone. Add the other one whenever you like.
  3. Add Steno to your agent. In Settings, create an access key and hit Copy instructions — paste those into your agent and it sets itself up. Your chats appear as the history loads.

No computer you can leave on? Deploy on Railway for about $5 a month.

Rather not run it yourself?

We’re considering a hosted version: the same Steno, running on our servers, for a small monthly fee. Leave your email and we’ll let you know if it happens.
